Migrate a domain from an alias to a new workspace

We have a really old domain that is on the legacy free plan. Let's call this domain1.

We have a second domain, domain2 that we added after this all became paid only.

The company that domain2 is for is growing and we want to make all of its data and users independent of the old ones.

So what I want to do is setup a new workspace, add domain2 as the primary domain (this is obviously now all paid, so we'll pay for the users we migrate).

Leave domain1 untouched so it continues on the legacy free plan.

I can't find any way to do this, any attempt to register a new workspace requires domain2 to not already be in use but I don't want to take domain2 offline i.e. I don't want to remove whilst the new workspace is not setup and ready for users to log into and start using.

Is there a way to setup a new workspace and avoid down time as this will impact staff, especially sales and support that depend heavily on their  emails being available?

Second, is there some means of migrating old account/data from the current domain1 to the new workspace?

Hello @zcourts

You can sign up for a new GWS account with a subdomain like this: sub.domain2.com, then setup users and everything as well as transfer data from the old account.

One completed, remove domain2 from your old account (free) > add it to the new account > makt it as primary domain -> rename users, then Done.

Hope that works.
