Protected ranges not being saved when submitting a google sheet to the template gallery

Hello,

I am working on a google sheet template that I would like to save in the template gallery. The template includes protected ranges in which I assign access to certain cells to group emails and not individuals. When I submit the sheet to the template gallery, and I use that template, it shows that there is a protected range but gives access to the person who opened the template (me for example) and not the group email I added before submitting the template to the template gallery.

To be clearer, let's say I want to protect cell A1 in sheet X, and only give admin@organization.org access to edit cell A1 (any team member that is included in admin@organization.org can edit that cell). I add this protection on cell A1, then submit sheet X to the template gallery. If I click on that template in the gallery, a new sheet (sheet Y) opens based on that template. There is now a protection on cell A1, but only applied to me, and not admin@organization.org . Is it possible to ensure that the protection for admin@organization.org remains? If yes, how? If no, is it possible to consider such a feature?

This will tremendously help organizations in creating templates that are used in several departments and across the years, and give access to groups and organizational units without worrying about access to individuals whenever there are new team members joining, or being handed over new roles, or exiting the organization.

Looking forward to the help with this!

Pia

Hi @piachaib, I wasn't aware of if there is a template gallery or not. I haven't used it even once. I am just adding" - [TEMP]" at the end of the file name and there wouldn't be any protected range problem occurring. All previously protected ranges will be usable for the copy. While using template people only need to delete the tail of the filename. Your issue would make your templates useless.
