My question is regarding are the pictures you can choose for the Shared Drives Custom Themes. You have to use a picture of size 1280x144 pixels. Why is this ?
When displaying the picture in share drives is only shows the middle section of the picture which is square. Uploading a picture of 144x144 or 288x288 would make far more sense. What I have to do at the moment is design a square image, and then in the picture editing software pad it to somewhere in the middle of a 1280x144 pixel image for it to be displayed.
Anyone know why this is the case - it seems very strange...

In some views is shows more than the square.
For example this one on desktop:
and this one on mobile:
I agree the way shared drive themes are handled is confusing and needs to be improved.

OK this makes some sense, but the aspect ratio of 9 to 1 is extreme. On the mobile it's about 3 to 1

Could there be other views that do require 9:1? Either way, this could be a better and more functional experience.
Very much in agreement...
This is low hanging fruit Google - would be ideal for an Intern project ๐
It does seem a bit counterintuitive to require a wide image when only a square section is displayed! The 1280x144 size might have been set to maintain a certain layout or design consistency across shared drives. However, your workaround of padding a square image is a clever solution. It would definitely make more sense if they allowed square images like 144x144 or 288x288 for easier editing and design. Hopefully, this feedback can lead to some adjustments in future updates!
