Hi, we are a school that assigns the same email extension to staff and students. For example, if our domain is "@abcschool.org" then all students and staff get that extension. I am wondering if we can assign staff to the "@abcschool.org domain but have students on another, such as "@stu.abcschool.org" domain? This way we can easily distinguish staff emails from student emails.

Yes, you can do this. Youโd set up a secondary domain for stu.example.edu as described at https://support.google.com/a/answer/7502379
Hope that helps,

@aantun in addition to Ian's note, plenty of universities I know do this for not just @students.xyz.edu but also for @staff.xyz.edu, and @alumni.xyz.edu as well. I also know many commercial entities that use @contractor.xyz.com and similar subdomains for clarity. This can help when a student account is compromised and used in spoofing for just one example of the benefits.
You can also do things like block directory access to all the students and tickets don't get confusing for staff as well or mistakenly do something for a student reserved for staff because they didn't realize it was a student.
