Subtasks don't show under Main Task when sorting by Date on Browser (Google Calendar > Tasks)

Apparently by design? Wtaf?

Works well on Tasks app. When you sort by date it sorts all of the Main Tasks by date and then you click on a Task to see Subtasks (whether with date or not).

On browser, on sorting by My Order, the Subtask correctly shows under the Main Task, but when you sort by date it splits out the Subtasks from the Main Task. If the subtasks don't have a date, it sorts the Main Tasks by date and drops the subtasks to a no date section at the bottom, you click the Main Task and it's like it doesn't have any subtasks.

How can the Product Engineers intend for it to work like that? They make an app work so intuitively and make the browser work different and say it's working as intended ๐Ÿฅด

@MrSamGray  I don't have a say in this, but just asking out of curiosity.

when you say app, on which platform are you using it, is it directly from google llc or from a third-party vendor?

Yes, Google LLC app Tasks ๐Ÿ™‚

@MrSamGray

Thanks for the clarification.

I am using google tasks on android and for me, it is the same as the web browser behavior in your case.

For me, both the platforms show tasks and subtasks based on date and not following the tree structure.

Omg. I don't want to update the Tasks app now in case it starts to do that ๐Ÿฅด can't understand why you would split out subtasks from parent tasks, defeats the whole purpose.

This has confused me as well.

In my view, if a parent task has a due date, and subtasks exist, the subtasks should always remain sorted under the parent task, if they have no due dates themselves.

But then, what happens if the subtasks have due dates, and you sort by date?

This experience needs some work.

Good question re the latter. It just doesn't make any sense to me why you would split out the subtasks (and make them appear like Parent Tasks). If nothing else, when you click the Parent Task, you should be able to see the subtasks (wherever they're sorted).

You might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here. Doing so will allow it to be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you do not already have access, you need to request it first. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ#:~:text=How%... for how to do that.

Once you have access, go to https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group . There, you can upvote and comment on any similar idea, or post a new idea.

To add, I think it should work like this:

Sort by due date

Sort parent tasks by due date

Subtasks are sorted within parent tasks, by due date

This is still a problem.  Subtasks would be useable if they stay within the parent task and can have a date / time function within the parent task date span.  I got so confused when I found stay tasks littered in the no date section.  This makes no sense.  I will go to the community forum and post something as all the posts here are from 8 months ago and clearly nothing has been done!

If this gets posted in the Feature Ideas forum, please share the link here so I can upvote it.

Ughhhh did anyone post? if so, please share so I can upvote it! This is so frustrating... like yaaaas, give us an incredible tool and then totally botch a key functionality? Wah.
