how to change same domain with new domain service provider in google workspace?

I'm currently using Google Workspace with my domain managed by a specific domain service provider. However, I'm planning to switch to a new domain service provider but want to keep using the same domain with Google Workspace. I'm concerned about any potential disruptions to my email, calendar, and other Google Workspace services during this transition. Could someone guide me through the steps to ensure a smooth transfer process without any downtime or loss of data? Any tips or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Reksy,

If I understand right, your goal is to change the registrar of your domain, right ?

First of all, transferring a domain name won't delete any data from Google Workspace.

The problem is the transfer processes are different from one provider to another. I suggest preparing all the DNS you have in your current provider, such as MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM

Then contact your new provider and ask them how they work and if there's a way to transfer the domain to them in a seamless way.

A few things to note :

- Full domain transfer can take up to 7 days

- You have to get a special code (auth code, EPP code, transfer code are all the same) to perform the transfer

- If the domain name ends with .com, you'll need to make sure transfer lock isn't on in your current provider and that you disabled WHOIS privacy settings

- If you have a website as well with your domain (outside of Google Sites), you should consider looking at the A record as well and maybe move the website to your new provider (depending on where the site is hosted).

Hope it helps !

Christopher
