I've a client that wants to use the ยฃ5 Business Starter plan, and I have a Business Starter referral code.
However, during the process they are forced onto a ยฃ10 Business Standard plan and not given a choice to select a package.
From what I've read, the workaround is to create the account and then downgrade from Standard to Starter before the trial ends.
However, my worry is that this would cancel the referral code that has been entered due to it being product specific?
My questions are:
1) Can I use my Business Standard code, downgrade to Starter and retain the referral benefits?
2) is it possible to enter a different (Starter) referral code after the downgrade - I've heard that it depends on region, but I don't know which regions it can be done in (I'm in UK region)
3) Is there a way to force Google to accept he wants Business Standard from the start? - He put in that he was a single employee, which i thought would do it. One other idea I had was to completely delete the account and try signing up again from the Pricing page (they have a start a trial option for each of the packages). However this seems a bit of a faff!

Hello @studiojero,
Thank you for contacting us!
To be able to set the correct plan and apply the promo code, you need to select the specific plan your referral wants to sign up for. For example, if your referral is interested in Google Workspace Business Starter, you need to make sure you select that subscription.
โ
Also note even if they selected the incorrect plan from your referral link on your landing page, there should be a way to click and switch plans while they sign-up, even if the initial plan says Standard.
โ
Please email contact our support team to confirm if that referral is tracked back to your referral account.
In terms of getting the 10% discount, if your referral is in the United States, Canada, or the EMEA region, unfortunately they would need to apply one of your promotion codes when they began the 14-day trial period. However, if your referral is in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, or the APAC region, they have the ability to enter their billing information and your promotional code at any time during the 14-day trial period.
For more information, see all FAQs, terms, or contact us.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Google Workspace Referral Team
Unfortunately that is the issue - During the signup process Google decides which package it thinks is the most appropriate and doesn't give any options to switch until after the point where you enter the code and the account is created.
Seems like the only solution is for them to cancel the account completely and start from scratch - then try and get to the package from the pricing page.
