Hi folks,
Once again, just like with Analytics changes, I cannot figure out what to do with the reCaptcha emails to make changes!! Take that Mensa.
So, I have recaptcha on my contact form. Works perfectly. Yesterday's emails **appeared** to tell me to create a Google Cloud account to link a payment method. I did. And then found out that I did not need to unless I had more than 10,000 uses of recaptcha a month. I average 5 ๐
So I have this account, likely do not need it, and have no idea what instructions are telling me to do next.
Can someone please advise what to do (or not do?) to put this behind me and keep using recaptcha as I alwways have been?
Thanks so much!
~Bob
No advice? Undo Cloud somehow as not needed? Delete payment info? Anything?
No adice? Cancel Cloud Account? Or just cancel payment method? Or do nothing?
Appreciate a bit of insight.

Hi @rebop,
Welcome to Google Cloud Community!
Since you only average 5 reCAPTCHA per month, you are still within the free tier limit. The free tier limit allows up to 10,000 reCAPTCHA per month. Therefore, you don't need to take any further action. You can continue using reCAPTCHA as you always have.
You donโt need to worry about your Google Cloud account for now. You can leave the account as-is if you have any plans to use other Google Cloud services.
If you think that you will not be needing the Google Cloud services anytime soon and you want to avoid any confusion or potential charges, you can disable the billing account you created. You can just ignore any future billing notices that might pop up unless you exceed the free tier usage limits.
Also, moving forward. I recommend checking out the Google Cloud Security Community forum regarding reCAPTCHA. They have a dedicated community and resources that might be more helpful in addressing your question.

Thanks, for the reply, but as I said, I have ALREADY taken action. It was not until AFTER I did I found out I did not need to ๐
Can you point me how to disable billing and Cloud accout without disturbing my reCaptcha?
Thanks.
To disable billing for a project, you can refer to this documentation.
Thanks, but unclear. If I disable Billing for the Project it says it may stop working and I do not want to lose my reCaptcha that is working.
And, I really would prefer to remove the credit card on file which I do not seem to be able to do.
So instead of a link, can you tell me exactly how to remove all billing, delete my credit card information, keep or close the Cloud account without losing my exisiting reCaptcha? That would be most helpful. Thanks.
~Bob
If you want to remove your payment method, please follow these steps:
Thanks, ronelg. Already tried that and it does not work. Surprised you do not know that.
You HAVE to replace the payment method you are removing.
Next....?
Nope. cannot. Try it. You have to REPLACE it with something else.
Find me wrong on that, then show me the steps please.
Just to confirm, you tried removing the payment method from here? https://payments.google.com/gp/w/home/paymentmethods
For the third time, Tessa, yes!
If you tried it, you'd believe me.
I was able to remove the only existing payment method on my own account, so I'm not entirely sure why you are unable to remove yours. You may need to reach out to the payments team instead.
Really!!! I am surprised. And what could be different for you than for me?
How do I contact the payments team?
Thanks!
So this is mentioned in the docs:
If only one payment method exists for a subscription, then a user must add a new payment method before removing the existing payment method. Follow these steps on how to add a new payment method to the subscription.
I expect you will need to close the billing account before you can remove the payment method. This is probably the best place to reach out for support https://cloud.google.com/support/billing#support-contact-for-admins
What I can tell you is that based on your described usage, you will not be billed for reCAPTCHA if you keep the billing account since you are well within the free tier. If you instead decide to disable billing on the project, you will still be able to use the reCAPTCHA service and receive up to 10,000 free assessments per month.
Thanks. I wish I had paused rather than joined this for no reason when the confusing email arrived. But will reach out elsewhere. Thanks for the help.
Still interesting you can remove your only method of billing and I can not ๐
