Where should Developer Portal be installed in Private Cloud

On the Developer Services portal installation Edge for Private Cloud v. 4.17.05

it identifies the following warning on the page Do not install Developer Channel Services portal on the same servers as Apigee Edge.

What is the background on this warning? Is there some conflicting ports/configs/versions/???

We have a sandbox area where we install several components on the same server and typically install the Edge UI and Dev Portal on the same server. Now it looks like this is not recommended. Any background would be appreciated.

@Wayne Irwin Devportal 4.17.01 and above uses Nginx as the webserver, while previous versions used Apache. This results in devportal conflicting with Nginx installed with Edge router. This was discussed on a previous community post : https://community.apigee.com/questions/41601/starting-developer-portal-error-in-its-installatio.html? Hope this helps.
