I must be an idiot, because I can't believe this isn't possible but I can't figure out how to do it.
I have a frightfully simple form to add a barcode. If the value of the barcode exists, I get a message saying "that exists already." Good, that's intentional; these records should be unique.
But if the record exists, whoever is scanning items will be rightly curious about the item scanned, and will want to see its record. No way to do that directly from a screen that only allows "cancel" or "save".
So how about scanning into the search for the parent page that shows all records? Fine, it shows 0 hits -- but the only option is to add a record. OK, but I shouldn't have to scan the barcode again. I need the value in the search bar (that just showed no hits) to show up in an add record form.
I can't find any way of doing this.
1. Scan item
2. Exist? Offer record for viewing
3. Not exist?
a. ideally, just instantly offer the field value in a form to add a new record
b. settle for tapping into an add form in such a way that the search value is brought over to add
No way this can't be done. Right?
