Bug in formatting rules in desktop view

As the video shows, a strange phenomenon occurs when the following expression is written in โ€œIf this condition is trueโ€ in the formatting rule.

CONTEXT("ViewType")="Deck"

While only the Deck view is displayed, the formatting rule is valid, but when the Detail view is displayed, the formatting rule seems to be disabled.

In the Desktop View, I expect the formatting rules to continue to be in effect in the Deck view after the Detail view is displayed.

I did a quick test and I also found this behavior that the format rule set specifically on a summary view  using CONTEXT("ViewType") ="Summary View Type" is not carrying through in the desktop view when the user clicks on the summary record to display the associated detail view.

Hi @Aleksi , @devingu

May we request your insights. This seems to be a major requirement.

The same happens even with the Table view when you click the row and the detail view is shown. Let me check this.

EDIT:

When having e.g. a table view with the full screen and it has a format rule for one column with an expression CONTEXT(ViewType)="Table", it shows the format rule when you open the table view.

But when you click one of those rows, it disappears. I would assume then the detail view is "activated" in the screen. But in the other hand, if you write CONTEXT(ViewType)="Detail", it doesn't show it either on the detail view. Which makes me wonder the behavior is not consistent either. We need to have a better functionality with this.

Thank you Aleksi for the insights. Would request you to take it up with the development team.

Also this sounds like a major bug from user experience point of view. It will be very confusing for the user for the format rule to disappear just because of expanding a view. Will request a priority attention to solving this.

I have pointed out this issue while Desktop mode was in the private preview, but the new desktop UX was released (GA-ed) by leaving such a major bug was un-attended. That s the story behind.

With new desktop UX, the CONTEXT expression is generally working oddly (all in all , there are few bugs like this).

Thank you @Koichi_Tsuji  for the updates. Format rules is a necessary feature for highlighting various fields as per business requirement in an app. So they need to work in all scenarios.

Maybe AppSheet team can introduce a CONTEXT("VIewType") = "Desktop" for such requirements.

Thank you all for your advice.

@ใ‚คใƒซใ‚ซใฎใˆใฃใกใ‚ƒใ‚“  thank you.

Will request you to update the community when you receive any update/ resolution from the support team.

Of course!

I received a response from support and am sharing it here.
As you can see in the image, this appears to be the intended behavior.

As advised, though, I will make a feature request,
In my honest opinion, I am disappointed with this response.
