Change date format from US MM/DD/YYYY to UK DD/MM/YYYY

Please can you provide advice on how to change the date format from US MM/DD/YYYY to UK DD/MM/YYYY. I have followed these steps below and it is still not working. 

1. From the Google Sheets select File, settings. In the Settings dialog, set Locale to UK.

2. From the appsheet select data - table - Localization set to the UK.

Hi, can you be a little more specific about how to do this please? I am experiencing the same issue with wrong formatting of dates. Thanks.
