Examples or Articles of a Text Field with a Dropdown from Previous Entries

Are there any example apps or articles on this behaviour?

I have a TEXT field. I want the user to input some text with a drop down option of selecting previously entered text.

So the user can enter new text OR select previously entered text.

Where and how is that text stored and recalled?
