Hi, I want to make an app that enables the user to upload documents and images.

A list of these will then be displayed someplace, I hope on a page in Google Docs or as a webpage under the Google cloud.

I assume the process is that when a document is uploaded, the link to it is added to the external list and when the link to that external list page is clicked, it displays the updated page with the new document at the top of the list.

What should my strategy be - is this a template issue basically? If so, what sort of template would work best? Google docs would seem nice because it can easily create a list, but is creating some kind of HTML layout a better bet? I probably want to have sections in the display page. Would the Google Doc or HTML template get updated each time someone uploads?

Try this:

Create a new Google sheet to store the list of your documents
Make a couple of columns to help differentiate things from one another; ID, upload timestamp, document upload, etc
Create an app sheet app from the sheet
Ensure that the upload column has the file type

This should give you a very basic setup where you could upload your documents into your Google drive using app sheet as the mechanism. After which you'll have a record inside your Google sheet for each document uploaded, and when displayed inside your app it all just naturally works really well.
