Numeric Value from another table

Hi,

i am working on a service app where i have different tables , i want to fetch a numeric value "Feed Rate" from another table where i have set values of different parameters . i want that "feed rate" value to be populated at the time of entry by the use. for this i have tried select statement , lookup() but may be its numeric it gives error .

Please help
