Problem with images in app

Hello everyone,

Im having an issue with images in the app.

I did enter each photo into the app individually and I didn have store content for offline use enabled but it's now showing exclamation marks for most of my images.

Does this still happen regularly.

I saw another post that says it might be a temporary caching issue by Google drive but is this the case even if the content is stored for offline use?

Where are your images stored? In the cloud and available to the public? Or on your primary data source under a directory already used by your app?

How did you identify your images to your app? What makes you think you've identified them correctly?

What do you mean by, "I did enter each photo into the app"?

Do the images work when the app is online?

@Steve thanks for the response.

So it's an inventory management app which takes photos of the stock items for indexing.

I set the app up from scratch and was testing it with items from around my house. I captured the items via my mobile phone.

I captured the individual stock items in a form view along with a few other fields. Unique ID, name etc.

Then I had a stock list view which I chose as Card view and I could scroll through the stock items this way. It worked the two or three times I used this week but then when I went to use it today the images won't load.

The images aren't loading in the app preview in the editor either. With the app creator login as the email address.

I don't at present have any security filters on the app.

I just checked and it still hasn't rectified itself๐Ÿ˜”

That behavior is odd, indeed! My first thought is that something changed in your data source: you moved the files or directory; or you renamed a directory. Or you changed the app configuration in some way to point it to a different directory, or renamed the table with which the images are associated.

@Steve thanks for responding. No the data is still the same, it's picking up the first two images I added to the app and it's logging new ones. The table is still the same, the images are available on my Gdrive and the names of the files are the same as they are in the app, and the drive path file names haven't changed. I logged it with Appsheet but that was a couple of days ago and other than giving me a response that they will take a loot at it I haven't heard anything back. What do I do now? Relink the images via my mobile and hope it doesn't happen again?

I'm afraid I don't know. I really don't work with images all that much, so I don't have much experience to draw on.

@Suvrutt_Gurjar @Joseph_Seddik Do either of you have any insight?

Thank you @Steve .  I will give it a try.

Hi @Jared12345 ,

Just reconfirming,

could you mention if

1. You have uploaded all the images through the app?

2. How many images are not showing? Is it a very large number ?

I believe this is a caching problem, it happens but should not happen frequently.

I recommend that you clear the cache of your browser, and if my conclusion is right, then this should surely solve your problem.

Another crude way of forcing cache update is to go to the corresponding images folder in Google Drive, and rename it (just add xxxx for example to the name), go back and sync your app, the images should all disappear, then back to Google Drive and restore the folder original folder name (remove the additional xxxx), then sync the app, now all images would appear correctly.

Hi everyone thanks for all the responses.

So I deleted my cache but that didn't help.

And yesterday while I was waiting for your response I had begun adding back a few items manually in the app.

So this morning I went to look for the folder in Google Drive and I just searched for STK cause I know my unique Id has that in the name and I found another folder which had the few items that are actually showing up in my app. But these items are in a folder related to another app of mine.

I still have the folder in my actual app with all the Images but for some reason it is looking in another Apps folder for the Images.

I thought that it wasn't even possible to do that. @MultiTech even had me manually point the directory at the folder in my  App under the "Type Details - "Image/File Folder path" and we tried to add a new image in there which didn't work, because Appsheet isn't looking at that folder.

Now I can move the Images to this Folder in my other App and it should work but is this ok to continue as is? Or is there a way to fix it  so it looks at the folder I expected it to, other than the way Matt and I already tried?

Folder I expected it to be in

Keeptrackofmystuff-3102900 > Master_Images

Folder I found the few images in, that are showing up in the App > Master_Images

Name of App

Hi @Jared12345
I have exact same problem and tried to find solution here on community. No one knew how to solve that and I still do not know how to do it. In my opinion it may be because we both use same gsheets in different apps (this is what I deduced from your last reply above). In my case what is even more interesting it depends on the user!

For example:

When USER1 adds new photo it is being stored where intended but when USER2 adds photo it is being stored in new folder on my drive...

I checked and every user uses the newest version of the app!

It is really strange behaviour and we decided to leave it. BUT! It would be great to solve it so I join discussion ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi @Jared12345 ,

Thank you for the additional details. With the description of the scenario of two apps, I think it is better someone takes a look at the app(s) rather than discussing in community as such a scenario could pose many possibilities and associated questions.

Also if @multitech_visions is helping you as you mentioned in the latest post, you are already being guided by one of the best  Appsheet experts. So it is best option that you continue that dialog.
