Use and action to execute an external link, silently

Hello
I have a HTTP link that my app generates dynamically using column values. The user then executes the link by clicking on an action. All of this works perfectly, however, the URL opens a window displaying the HTTP response. All of this is as it should be/by design, however, the resulting page is distracting, i woudl prefer that the link be launched silently through the action, so that the user does not see the resulting HTTP request in a window or otherwise. is this possible?
