Why does Google’s Gmail keep signaling Google’s googlecloudcommunity.com emails as dangerous, showing a big red warning on top of every message, and keep marking them as Spam?
Did they forget to configure SPF in their domain? 😀
Hello @Joseph_Seddik,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are looking into this matter.

Michelle | Community Manager
Thanks @Michelle! I'll be interested in receiving an update when you have one please.
Curious if you are still experiencing this? SPF and DKIM are configured.
Thanks Andrew!
Yes, unfortunately Gmail keeps sending the emails to SPAM.
This is an example of an email I just received a couple of minutes ago and was sent directly to SPAM.
Here are the message details if it would be of any help.

This is not happening for me and I am getting a lot of extra emails from the Copmmunity (see below for more on that).
I don't know how the Spam prevention rules propagate from AppSheet through the Internet to our email providers. But many email providers give us the ability to indicate if emails from certain addresses are Spam or not. It might be that you just simply need to explicitly tell your email provider these emails are ok. I would log into the online email reader your provider gives you, and see what Spam Prevention options they have. Doing it from your local desktop email reader might work, but I have read of cases where it seems the provider didn't get those updates. Your internet browser version of the email reader will have all the options the email provider recognizes.
We are getting a lot of Community emails based on subscriptions to posts that are happening automatically. This increased traffic is likely causing Spam rules to trigger at your email provider. We do have the ability to configure settings in the forum so that you do not get subscribed and/or do not get the emails. One way to get to these options is at the top of the AppSheet Q&A. Tap the "Topic Options" link in the upper right-hand corner, and then select "Edit Preferences". You can edit some of these email settings in there.
I'm with @WillowMobileSys on this.
BTW, both Discourse and GCC's mails are SPAM on my end (to my provider) and I keep it that way.
I think your provider could see some emails as SPAM if it knows that certain domain is sending just too much emails. This is all related to the rules followed by the provider, rules that you can overwrite
Hi Oscar. Actually my GMAIL never sent any Discourse emails to SPAM. The provider is Google’s GMAIL.
Thanks John. There is no reader involved, it is just the plain browser and the provider is GMAIL, with no spam rules configured.
You are missing the point. I’m not complaining about the volume of community emails; I know I can select the types I want to receive if any, and I know how to stop spam flagging and even explicitly put googlecloudcommunity.com in a white list.
I am just signaling to the team that **GMAIL** by default is sending the googlecloudcommunity.com to Spam and displays a big warning telling the users that this sender is “dangerous” and was involved in “large number” of “phishing” attempts. I know how to stop that, but thought it is worth signaling, for the benefit of other gmail users who might not know about spam filtering rules, not to mention that both are Google products.
This only involves emails from the community not AppSheet.
I think you should send feedback to the Gmail team, not the AppSheet team nor community team.
Also, as my translation said, it says that it 'could' be dangerous, and that other users had marked those emails as spam or something else, so it's just the spam algorithm doing it's work.
Also notice that you don't need to configure anything to have spam detection, it's just how it works on Google's service for emails.
https://support.google.com/mail/answer/9212652
I'm just trying to say that it's a good idea to point this to the Gmail team
It actually explicitly says “phishing” not spam, and even displays a hook icon as indication for phishing, and the result is that users are not seeing the emails.
Another important thing, in modern email services, like Gmail, the biggest factor in determining the incoming email risk and subsequent spam rules is how the sender’s domain is configured. Missing or misconfigured security attributes in the sender’s domain is nowadays a sure way for discarding its emails at the receiving end.
The owner of the domain is the one responsible for ensuring the sound reception of his messages not the receiving end. This is not something new, an old principle in telecommunications science says: “it is always the sender’s fault”.

Maybe it's not
A lot of spammers may be using Gmail and even if the domain is Gmail it doesn't mean it's secure
Yes Oscar, you cannot say that a particular sender domain is secure, I agree. However, you can say that one domain is NOT secure. You cannot prove trueness but you can prove falsehood.
Yes, you are right I did miss the fact that it was GMail you were using. But I think this might be a testament to the fact that GMail holds its counterparts to the same high-standards in Spam prevention as everyone else.
Also, since you pointed out its GMail, I have activated GMail for the account I'm using in this community. I'll see if I get the same behavior.
Thanks much John! I was actually too shy to ask you or anyone to test with their gmail account.
In case you're still wondering whether it occurs for others, the answer is yes. This has been occurring for me since I joined several weeks ago. I'm using a gmail.com account and the GMail app.

Thank you for letting us know. We are continuing to work on a resolution.
Thank you,

It's still happening.
It looks like you're using a classical scammer technique by registering a domain name with the with word "google" in it instead of a subdomain like cloudcommunity.google.com
@peter65 wrote:

You are aware Google has a slew of domains outside of google.com that contain "google", right? There's nothing bogus about this.
I wasn't saying that google owned domains outside google.com with the name "google" was bogus.
@Michelle I still observe this behaviour.
It says
This message seems dangerous
Many people marked similar messages as phishing scams, so this might contain unsafe content.
Avoid clicking links, downloading attachments, or replying with personal information.
Could you please give us an update on this?
Thank you very much in advence,

Its been like 3 years and this is still happening? The warning is pretty strong... email is Dangerous... yet its from their own no-replay from an actual google domain... and there isnt even any link to click on in the email!!
What email address domain was this sent to? From which email reader are you seeing this message? Are you seeing this warning in a personal email reader for email that have gone through your ISP or is this in Gmail?
There are several potential places and several factors considered where an email can be flagged as Spam or Junk, receive a warning or be completely blocked! Volume of messages is one of those factors. And email providers (including pass-through nodes) are constantly updating and refreshing their spam detection protocols which can lead to re-occurrences of such flagged messages.
These occurrences, flagged or dropped emails, have happened to AppSheet many times over the years. Unfortunately, spam prevention methods are not 100% foolproof.
At the very least I would report this to AppSheet as they may be able to track down the source of the message and get the appropriate Google domains registered as non-spam related.
Sorry I thought it was obvious based on the screenshot i uploaded but i notice it doesnt show the full interface or my own email... its actually to my gmail account, which i am reading always only on gmail.com
I was under the impression that these forums (googlecloudcommunity) was a google owned server/domain... I had not noticed that "AppSheet" you mentionned.
I did click the "not spam" when I received the 2 emails, and your reply today showed up in the inbox properly... so maybe it just had to get "informed" that it was not spam? 🙂
Either way, thanks for clarifying this! 🙂
