Admin Console - High Contrast or Dark Mode (Accessibility)

Hi everyone,

An admin who has colour vision deficiency has asked if Admin Console has high contrast mode or dark mode. If one does not exist, does Chrome have a functionality or extension that could help? According to the admin, some of the buttons are hard to see from an accessibility perspective.

I don't know of a native way to do this but there are some chrome extensions that might work, such as https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dark-mode-chrome/eiomngfcbbapjpfnhniipcnhaenhohfg?hl=en. Or the admin could possible change the accessibility settings on the OS level to fix this issue as well.

thanks caleb! another one that @kim_nilsson recommended was https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dark-reader/eimadpbcbfnmbkopoojfekhnkhdbieeh?hl=en will let him know of both options and see which one works better

Hi! I won't recommend using this, seeing it does not change the colour of dark texts to light when it switches to dark mode. Use this instead

It's trully surprising we have a 'solved' solution here. Have anyone of the posters suggesting dark-mode plugins actually tried it? Dark Reader is so slow on monitoring dashboards, it can't be used. Other plugins are trying to hack the dark mode, but it looks very bad.

People are asking for native dark mode for google console for years now.... 😞

Not solved! Chrome extensions aren't great. As someone who suffers from migraine headaches (a result of a traumatic brain injury as a kid), staring at a white screen all day is tough. I am an ML engineer and I spend a great deal of time in the GCP console. As such, a natively supported "dark theme" would be a godsend!

There's also the option of chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark

It's a bit of a heavy hammer, but it will turn your page backgrounds black.

No native Dark Mode in the year 2025 is criminal.

This matter should remain open until native dark mode functionality is directly integrated into the Google Workspace Admin Console, without reliance on third-party extensions.

My team and I regularly navigate the console for extended periods and the availability of a dark theme would be a significant benefit in terms of visual comfort.

Given Google's extensive resources, development capabilities, and financial strength, the lack of this feature is difficult to comprehend in 2025.
