Can't create folder on Google Drive

I've been using Google Drive for a couple years for our office and hadn't had this problem previously. I'm using Drive for Desktop and when I try to create a new folder in my main drive (G:\Other computers\COLLABO Drive\) it gives me the following error:

An unexpected error is keeping you from creating the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with the problem.

Error 0x80070522: A required privilege is not held by the client

This doesn't happen when I create a new folder within any of the current folders I have on the drive, just on the main folder. The same error happens if I try to copy a file to this main folder. I haven't been able to do it through my browser on Google Drive either.

Seems to be a permission error of some kind. Anyone have a clue here?

I switched to a new computer about 4 months ago, which may be when this issue happened. Is my Google Drive somehow tied to my old PC?

Thanks!

A lot of questions arise after reading your post. Too many to ask here.

I will assume that when say "G:\Other computers\COLLABO Drive\", you actually mean "G:\Computers\COLLABO Drive\".

If that's the case, I'll assume that you are trying to create new content in a folder that used to sync with an old computer, so I'd say this is the expected behavior, as you can't sync to that computer anymore.

If my assumptions are correct, you can resolve the issue by moving everything to your "My Drive" to avoid having those folders linked to an old device.

In any case, if my assumptions are wrong, we can help (free of charge) if you reach out to me directly. We can have a quick Google Meet call to troubleshoot this. You can email me directly to <PII  removed by staff> (this is a temporary email, valid for the next 7 days).

Hi Nuno,

One of my company's users is running into this same error message after our recent migration from "my drive" to "shared drives". Previous to the migration this employee had been able create, delete, move, ect. files without issue. Now that we are operating out of shared drives he is unable to delete folders and runs into the error listed above.

He's running on Windows 10, is signed in as his machines administrator. Has all the correct permissions and permissions for drive for desktop.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'd say that the user has the "Contributor" role. Change it to Content Manager and try again. Or maybe is not a member of the shared drive and you have just shared a folder in a shared drive with that user. But if I had to guess, I'd say it's the first option.

The "Contributor" role lets users edit files but not delete or move things around. And, if you're using the desktop client, you can only edit files "locally" (using apps installed in your computer) if the role is set to at least "Content Manager".

If this is not the root cause, we can have a quick Meet call to troubleshoot this together.

@CFTAdmin does the user with the issue have the permissions to the shared drive to create a folder?  Do you have license for workspace applied to the user?  Perhaps you only have cloud identity?  Just trying to guess here. -KAM

User has Content Manager permissions. He has been working on the desktop client for years - it was only until we started using shared drives that this was an issue. Our company had previously been working out of shared folders from one person's "My Drive".

@CFTAdmin Recommend you open a Google support ticket as my only other guess is have checked the user isn't over their storage quota? -KAM

Hi @CloudGuardians,

I'm facing the same issue with my existing sync laptop.

I was creating another new folder from the main drive. The new folder is not sync to GDrive.

Canโ€™t sync /Users/Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-[email address]/Other computers/My Laptop/ because it contains configuration files which canโ€™t be uploaded.

No file created in the folder.

Regards,

-Sdy-

Di you debug by uninstalling the Drive client completely, and removing that folder in the Library path (after moving/backing up anything that isn't synced yet)?

Sometimes things just get corrupted and need to be refreshed.

The path you describe (/Users/Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-[email address]/Other computers/My Laptop/) is not correct. You cannot sync the entire laptop. You must specify local folders (one at a time) to sync. For example: /Users/Library/CloudStorage/GoogleDrive-[email address]/Other computers/My Laptop/Downloads

Have specified the folder. The path is coming from Google Drive.

I did the same for my others 2 folder and working fine.

When I tried to add more, its returning error message.
