Can we add a Google Drive Folder to Spaces

Can we add a Google Drive Folder to Spaces? I can see that we can add individual files but when you try and add a folder, it just puts a link to the folder in the chat, not in the Files section. Can that be fixed or added as a feature? The issue with it being only in chat is that it will get lost after several conversations. It would be great if a folder (and its sub folders) can be added to Files section.

Did you ever get an answer or solution for this?

i did not...

I agree. Adding one file at a time is idiotic. I can't even add multiple files at a time, which would help. An entire folder would be even better!

I think essential that the FILES are in spaces works like DRIVE, the same functionality i.e folders, docs, files etc. Just like in TEAMS.

You might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group, and https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ for how to get access. This will allow it to be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Cheers,

Ian

I just requested to join the Feature Ideas sections. Thanks!

I love community input on product features, but users shouldn't have to request a feature that is such a critical limitation of Google Spaces compared to the competition. If Spaces doesn't allow linking of a shared folder in Drive with a Space, then Spaces is just a chat app that has no parity with Teams.

I agree. I see no real benefit on staying with Google over teams. It's just
not standing up to it.

I hope Google will add this simple feature soon!!

absolutely needed. It's idiotic that we can't have folders within google spaces and/or add a google drive to a specific google space.

Yep lol If we are seriously competing with teams we need to get serious

I agree this feature must be added. Is there any link available to a request in the Feature Ideas section that we can support ?

Observer

Any more information on this please? Do we know if it's planned to be added? It seems so silly not having the option already, surely it must be on its way?

If you do not already have access, you need to request it first. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ#:~:text=How%... for how to do that.

Need permission to view that post...

same here

@please check the link I have added for requesting access to feature idea section

Agreed! The whole Spaces thing is IMO is almost an insult they could consider it a product worth naming. It's not just the folder/file thing, the whole integration across the other Google workspace products.

Wow. My first attempt to do anything with Google workspace:  because it encouraged me to add a workspace and add some files for any project I am working on.

So I (excitedly):

  • Created a workspace,
  • clicked add files,
  • and immediately discovered I canโ€™t select  a folder?!

Thought I must be missing something.

Lol Isnโ€™t this one of the first (and most basic) things one would want to do?

I guess itโ€™s time to go explore teams instead?  Does it have similarly stupid limitations?

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Just so there's an answer to your question, teams does NOT suffer from this stupid limitation. GWS sucks and is not a true enterprise solution. It is years behind O365.

So just for anyone else that couldn't find how to join the 'feature ideas' group... after you've joined the community you've got to click 'Feature Ideas' from the top menu, then it gives you the option to join the group (which then takes a few days to approve)... As there's only 3 upvotes I'm guessing that a number of other people also couldn't get access...

It's up here:
