Hello. I was wondering if anyone can help me? I used google to buy a domain and created a website using wordpress. I also created an email address for this website using google, (@businessname.co.uk). However, I can send emails but not receive them to this address. Is this a dns/mx issue? I am not good with these type of things so will have to talk to me like a dummy. Thanks in advance
That could very well be a DNS issue. Can you share the domain name? Also, did you buy Google Workspace or just a domain?
Just the domain as I am only paying £10/month or so… can i send you the domain privately?
If you only bought a domain from Google but not Google Workspace, that means you do not have email service. Google Domains only contains Email Forwarding. Meaning, you can forward incoming mails to another email account.
Example: Let's say you bought the domain some-domain.com. You could then forward incoming mails that go to sales@some-domain.com to your personal email account (john.doe@gmail.com).
You can find instructions on how to set up email forwarding here:
Invoice states “domain registration” as the only item. So i guess i will have to purchase google workspace? I think i did purchase google workspace then cancelled it thinking i made a mistake…
Thanks for this. I setup email forwarding but still doest not work. I try and purchase google workspace and it tells me domain is already in use. Any ideas?
Seems like i do have google workspace.
I just checked your domain (the one in the screenshot you posted). You have no MX records set up at all, that's why you do not receive any emails. If you have Google Workspace, you need to follow the initial onboarding instructions that you are given when you sign up. It will guide you through setting up MX records in DNS.
If you are not using Google Workspace, Google Domains should have set up your MX records for you automatically, unless you chose the "custom name server" option. Set the name server option to "default".
I have custom name servers setup, is this how i setup the mx records? Thanks for your help
If you have custom name servers set up you probably did that for a reason (and seeing they are pointing to Wordpress), so I won't give you advise to change that. I don't want to break things for you.
Without knowing your specific setup and mix of different tools (like Wordpress etc) it's hard to tell you what you should do. I think this might go beyond what is reasonable to discusss in a forum post.
Look at the Google support article I posted that explains how to set up MX records. It also has a section of how to set them up when using custom name servers. Follow that and you should be fine.
Hi!
I'm glad I found this thread.. I'm experiencing the same issue.
I haven't been able to receive inbound emails. First time experiencing this after having the email account for almost 2 years. My domain and email services are from Google and I have the basic google workspace account.
I checked and it says I don't have a DNS setup and no MX records. So I followed the "activate gmail" tool setup and added the MX records in Cloud DNS. I waited 72 hrs for the records to propagate but when I continued the "activate gmail" setup tool, it's still showing that I have no MX records.
What should I do next? I'm using (PII Removed by Staff) as my email
@MaeBornillo a quick DNS lookup confirms the MX records aren't in place: https://www.whatsmydns.net/#MX/maekithappen.com
It looks like you have it registered with Wix so you should look for support from Wix on how to edit your DNS records.
I'm experiencing the exact same issue as @MaeBornillo, had registered for Google Workspace 2 years ago and all of a sudden e-mails are not coming in since yesterday and Google Help in my Admin Console says MX records are missing, when checked the MX records are there as they were setup initially. Followed the advice and redid the MX records and when trying to activate GMail again it says still MX records are missing. Now finding this post has confirmed, waiting 72 hours is not gonna fix the problem. Any advice?
It sounds like this may be an issue that's more likely to get solved by contacting Google Support (see https://support.google.com/a/answer/1047213?hl=en for how).
@Balamittra has your domain registration expired, possibly? Are you able to test your DNS with a linux box with something such as dig -t mx <yourdomain.tld> @8.8.8.8 -KAM
