Google Meet - Upload/Attach File During a Meeting

Hello Everyone,

A client of ours is interested in the ability to upload/attach documents DURING a Google Meet meeting.  I know there is the ability to do this in the associated Calendar event prior to a meeting. I'm not aware of any way to do this during the meeting.

QUESTIONS

  1. Is there a way to do this that I'm not aware of?
  2. If not, does anyone know if this is on the product road map?

@MagpiesMike upload to Drive and paste the URL in the chat (it you can do the same by editing the calendar event as they go in Drive and get started with the guests).

Not any way I am familiar with but as Stephen said, you can copy and paste URLs into the Google Meet chat. I have been in meetings where they have documents associated with the meeting and if there is a Google Chat space between the participants, that would be another way to give out the URL or use the 'add drive file' option.

Thank you Stephen and Penelope.  I really appreciate your feedback. It seems we don't have any visibility into future road map items.

You might want to have a look in the NDAed product roadmaps to see if thereโ€™s anything there about this. See

https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Roadmap-FAQ

for how to request access.

Note: This section of GCC is public, so items that you may see on the roadmap should not be discussed here, as that would violate the NDA.

Hope that helps,

Ian

This is a major deficiency in the Meet app. I really hope they plan to add the ability to drop images in the chat in the near future.

exactly, this is the main feature needed

yes, it might force me to use other apps instead. too sad, as i really like the overall interface.

You might want to post this to the Feature Ideas section here. Doing so will allow it to be upvoted by others and possibly considered as a future feature enhancement.

If you do not already have access, you need to request it first. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Feature-Ideas-FAQ for how to do that.

Once you have access, go to https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/gh-p/workspace-ideas-group . There, you can upvote and comment on any similar idea, or post a new idea.

If you are submitting a feature idea, be sure to explain the problem that you're trying to solve with the feature idea, not just the idea itself. For example, saying "when my users are trying to do 'A', they often get confused by the fact that the buttons to do 'X' and to do 'Y' look quite similar to each other, which leads to this unintended consequence" is far more likely to get fixed than a feature idea that just says "change the color of the button 'Y'".

Additionally, you might want to have a look in the NDAed product roadmaps to see if thereโ€™s anything there about this. See

https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/custom/page/page-id/Workspace-Roadmap-FAQ

for how to request access.

Hope that helps,

Created a simple Chrome extension to allow file sharing via drag n drop.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-meet-zoomin-file-s/iohobcbepoaeiijkanncaflcbmodjcfo

does file sharing work for anyone? I tried follow the instruction but this is not clear what should be ticked to make it happen (to open and share the files)

Hi,

Pls add above chrome extension from url, just drag and drop a file into chat window like this. it'll have uploaded file url populated in chat window.
Current file size limit is 5MB.

let me know if you face any issue....

thnanmks - but on windows PC it doesnt work, after installing the extension (and yes, its turned on) - there is no possibility to drag and drop a file1697978857365.png

Ok, got it. Seems like due to non-english language in browser.
I'll correct it soon.

Thanks. Maybe. Because as I understand this should give such option also for not google buissness users and also for local files (not only a Google drive files) - correct ?

I have a regular Google account and yes, the chrome has its polish version and yes I understood that extension should work also for local (saved on for example desktop files).

Should the extension be installed also by other user connecting to the same meeting ?

Yes, user can share any desktop files.
And other participants in the meeting need not have this extension on their systems.
Also fixed that non-english issue, will be available on chrome store within 1-2 days.

Latest version available now, you can try again now.

still nothing ๐Ÿ˜žApex_1698054986012.png

1. Pls go to extension url page and see what version you're seeing. e.g. I'm at 0.5

2. Pls try to drag a file from explorer to that chat window area.

Let me know, if it still don't work.

0,5 and yes I tried to drag but no results. The file is just opening but is not landing in the window to share

does not work... too bad. really much needed function...

Did Google plan to finally improve its system and add this functionnality ?
That's a huge missing.
