Manager cannot share Google Drive folder with others

When my boss and I try to share a folder in our Shared Drive, neither one of us are allowed to share the folder and contents within the folder with other people. Even with Manager access level granted and Content Managers allowed to share folder, when we add in our recipient's email to "Share", we are told "Can't share item: could not update sharing permissions."

Has anybody else had this issue before? If so, how did you rectify it? What settings should we apply moving forward to avoid this happening again?

@kdempsey357 no I've not run into this but you will never hear back from sending feedback.  You need to report it as an issue at:

Sending feedback is for non-urgent things like feature requests to help steer the direction of development.  The support portal linked to above is where you go to get the Google Cloud Support representatives to look into an actual issue.

@kdempsey357 what's the actual error message you receive?  Is it someone external to your organisation and the Shared Drive settings do not allow external sharing?

@StephenHind Yes, we're trying to send to someone external to our organization. However, our settings are selected so "People outside organization can be given access to files in this shared drive" and "Non-members of this shared drive can be given access to files in this shared drive." This is the first time we've had an issue with changing sharing permissions in google. We've shared with multiple people outside of the organization and have never run into this issue.

Managers and content managers (who are allowed to share folders in our settings),  after adding the recipient's email after right-clicking the folder and selecting "Share", receive the following message from Google:

"Can't share item

Could not update sharing permissions."

Given that Google is not allowing team members with "Manager" access level to share with others, and Google is not allowing any new sharing permission changes to save, we are at a loss of what to do. I've sent a feedback report within our drive folder, though I haven't heard back yet.

Have you ever run into this?

Thanks for your candor and insight @StephenHind! I really appreciate your clarity and direction.

Luckily the issue seems to have resolved itself. Whether it was the settings that updated, or something else, I'm not sure. Either way, I'm bookmarking the support link in case something like this happens again. Thank you for all your help!
