In Google Mail, there is a possibility to write messages on behalf of a group. Is this somehow possible in Google Chat as well or do you always need a user account?

Hello!
In Google Chat, sending messages "on behalf of a group" isn't natively supported in the same way it is in Gmail, where you can send emails as a group or alias. In Google Chat, messages are tied to individual user accounts, and there's no direct option to send messages explicitly on behalf of a group.
Hope it helps!

Ok, thanks for the quick reply. Would have been a good feature
How might that work? And what's the use case?
We have an announcement space. Here our IT, Press, Front Desk, Works Council and other teams would like to share important information. Some of them have groups like workscouncil@TLD - It would have been great if all in that group who are in works council can then post messages
While it's not currently a built-in feature, a Chat app could be written using the Chat API to send a message (using the Card UI for example) to the Group on behalf of a group ... by verifying a special groups membership.
The message attribution can also actually be the Chat app instead of the originating user.
Is it a good way to mentions ( @group ) a limited or just the concerned people in a larger spaces. This feature is available in slack ๐ and it was very helpfull
