The images were in an /appsheet/ folder that seems to be for storing misc meta data in.Previously (not related to this) I have renamed the sheet and it looks like there may be duplicates of the meta /appsheet/ folder. I didn't create those extra fold...

Nope. The URL in my Tools sheet is, for example, Tools_Images/f609831f.Image.104022.png and the default image location was automatically set... and it all worked... I've monkeyed with it since it broke trying to fix it... but I believe it was /appshe...
