Three Dot Menu Items

Hey everyone, 

Just wondering if it is at all possible to put actions in the three dot menu in the top right hand corner without selecting "Display Overlay"?

It would be AWESOME to be able to create a "menu" of options for the detail view that aren't floating above the view in the bottom right. I'm just not sure if it is possible or really what the point of having the three dot menu would be if the items that are in the menu are floating in the view already.
