Using a Control multiple times on a page with different chart and data

I'm trying to use a control (tried drop down, fixed size, input box) on a page. I have the same control with different charts. I want to select a different input for each chart and have it display data for only that input in that chart. Is this possible?

I've grouped the control and charts - doesn't work.
I can select (drop down) or input (input box) the value I want but it applies it to every chart on the page and then won't let me change it and select something else.

EXAMPLE:
Month: Jan, Feb, Mar
Some records with Jan, different records with Feb, others with Mar.
I want to show one chart with just the Jan records, one chart with just the Feb records, etc.

With a drop down control, I can select Jan and then I never see Feb or Mar in any of the other control boxes - including the original.

With an input box I can input Jan, get records. Next box type Feb and get No Data when there is actually data.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I think this should work.

I was able to get this to work by grouping the control and the chart, then grouping the other control and chart, so I'm not sure why this didn't work for you.

Another option would be to duplicate your Looker Studio data source (Resource > Managed added data sources > Duplicate)  and use source for one set of controls and charts, and the other for the other set.

Yeah, I thought that should work also. I did it different ways, group-copy-paste-change, add-group individually, add-copy-group, nothing worked.

@lauratilton

If you duplicate a data source, the replication will share the same field id for the same field...so filtering one data source will filter the other 😉

@Mehdi_Oudjida I tried it before I posted this, and I swear it worked! but it doesn't, you're right.

Glad it's not just me. This should be something I can do.

Here's more info:

I thought I'd try a workaround and add a different type of control for each chart.
Added drop down for one chart and selected a Jan.
Added Input box for another chart (again each control and chart are grouped into different groups). Selected Feb for input box and says No Data.

Something like that with 2 groups of chart + dropdown menu?

Yes. I'm using a table instead of actual chart, but yes, that is what I'm trying to do.

@rhonda-LAAS

The date range applied on the page and on each chart and control covered all the wished months and you grouped the good chart with the good dropdown control?

I have the default date range (for the control) set to a default of Auto: All Available dates. I have no date set for the chart.
I've grouped a chart with a control and another chart with another control. I can get one to work or the other but not both.

@rhonda-LAAS

Very strange. All the elements are at the page-level and not at the report-level?

I *think* so. Please tell me how to confirm this.
It shouldn't really matter since I only have one page in this test report.

@rhonda-LAAS

Right click the component, if you see "Make report-level" as part of the options, it means that the component in at the page-level.  if you see "Make page-level" as part of the options, it means that the component in at the report-level.

Mehdi

It is page-level.

@rhonda-LAAS

I don't see any other obvious reason that could cause the problem. The next step to fix the problem would be to access to the report to see what it is happening.

Thanks for all your help. I'm going to put this on hold for now and try to
think of another solution.
