Unusual Gmail auth on Apple device problem with new domain, "Account Unavailable"

The problem impacts email clients on macOS and iOS (tested Sparrow and integrated mail app).

We are a partner. We just switched over a new client to Google Workspace. Many users are unable to set up Apple mobile devices with Gmail. We created a test account and tried and found that we are also having the same issue. It is isolated to this one domain and Apple devices, from what we can tell. The accounts do set up as expected when using the Gmail app or the web, so we know the accounts are ok.

In some cases, after setting up email in iOS settings, the inbox will load and then immediately go offline. In other cases, users are in a loop (after successfully authenticating with our MFA users are redirected to the setup screen to choose an account type). Has anyone run into this before?

@RichF  I don't know if you can mark your own response as the solution so in case not, you can use this.

Check to ensure IMAP is enabled under Settings for Gmail > End User Access

This was an existing Google Workspace domain that we transferred into our Partner Portal. Users already had Google Workspace accounts configured on their devices before the transition. As part of the transition, we configured SAML to work with our Okta / Duo MFA system. Now the users cannot remain authenticated in Apple Mail, iOS Mail, or Sparrow.

This was just a simple problem with allowing for IMAP access.
